Salon Start Up Story – Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Beauty Lounge
Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Beauty Lounge is more than just your typical beauty salon. By incorporating their love for “pin-up girl” culture, co-founders Melissa and Scott Black offer waxing and sugaring, hair styling, skin care, and tanning services in a truly unique salon experience. By utilizing their passion for all things unconventional and unexpected, they provide award-winning and unique full-service salon experiences that you can’t find anywhere else.
Starting & Growing a Unique Pinup-Style Salon Service
Finding herself out of a job due to the recession in 2009, Melissa relied on her skills as a master Aesthetician and began conducting services out of a rented room. Melissa built a the Bombshell Brand reputation with her exemplary customer service and her own developed technique for “Practically Painless” Brazilian Waxing. Her passion for delivering 5-Diamond service led to a growing clientele that required more than the small rented room could allow. Melissa teamed up with her husband Scott to create Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Beauty Lounge. In just a few years, their passion and hustle helped them grow this one small room to 107 employees across four locations – three in Virginia and one on the Las Vegas strip.
In August of 2017, Melissa was named “The Region’s Most Brilliant Entrepreneur,” by Richmond Magazine. This is just one of many awards Bombshell has received over the years. In addition to being recognized in the Hall of Fame for Best Salon, they were also awarded First Place for Best Salon each year from 2013 to 2017 by Style Weekly. Melissa also created her own line of wax, called Candy Coat, that they use in the salons.

Scott gives credit to Melissa as “the creator of the brand and the visionary”; however, their teamwork and detailed approach to customer service is what makes them so successful in such a competitive industry. By passing on their values of inspiration, engagement, integrity and having a good time to the rest of their employees, they’re able to provide the Bombshell clientele with innovative and affordable services that express their atomic personalities.

Entrepreneurs Giving Back to their Community
Melissa and Scott love to give back and get involved in the communities they are involved in. Melissa served as a judge for the 2017 Miss Pinup RVA competition. Bombshell also donated several gift cards to the winners of the competition, ranging from $25 to $100. In response to the tragic shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, Bombshell Brazilian Waxing and Beauty Lounge jumped in and held several WAX-A-Thons to benefit the Las Vegas Victims’ Fund through “Go Fund Me.” At one of their locations, in just one day alone, they raised just over $1,000 and donated 100% of the proceeds to the cause.
