Doug Tate, founder of Alpha Technologies, is a native West Virginian and military veteran. He served our country honorably in the military before working on a special operations command-grade assignment with the United Nations, then retired after a service-related injury.

Tate returned home to West Virginia to notice an under-served market in the information technologies industry. He founded Alpha Technologies in 2000 operating as both President and CEO. Equipped with his military electronics background, an undergraduate degree in computer science, and two graduate degrees (applied computer science and business administration), Tate built an award-winning entrepreneurial venture that is now nationally recognized.

The Veteran-Owned Small Business With Huge Impacts

Alpha Technologies of Hurricane, West Virginia hosted Linda McMahon of the United States Small Business Association (SBA) in 2018. Doug Tate was named the runner-up for the 2018 National Small Business Person of the Year by the U.S. SBA, and earned Small Business Person of the Year for West Virginia in recognition of the tech company’s impacts.

Alpha Technologies specializes in maintaining data centers, including back-ups and information recovery, operating the largest commercially-owned data center in West Virginia. Doug Tate Leverages Influence to Reinvest in West Virginia

In his acceptance speech for the 2018 Small Business Person of the Year award in West Virginia, Doug Tate used the occasion to highlight how the future of West Virginia depends on investing in the state’s youth. Tate called for the creation of new jobs and suggested the creation of College Graduate Tuitions for West Virginia students committed to staying in the area.

Just two years later in March of 2020, Alpha Technologies began an initiative to provide cost-free support for small and medium-sized businesses in the state of West Virginia transitioning to remote work in the wake of COVID-19.

As a part of the West Virginia Work Remote Connection Initiative, Alpha Technologies offers free, 90-day server hosting for  West Virginia businesses. Doug Tate and his team believe in connectivity, communication, and helping other businesses through challenging times using Alpha Technologies’ innovative resources.
